Summary

The Russia and Moldova Jackson-Vanik Repeal and Sergei Magnitsky Rule of Law Accountability Act of 2012, also known as the Magnitsky Act is a bipartisan bill passed by the U.S. Congress and President Obama in 2012 that aims to identify, freeze the assets of, and prohibit all transactions with Russian officials and persons who participated in the abuse and death of Russian lawyer and whistleblower Sergei Leonidovich Magnitsky in a Moscow prison in 2009.
